Melaka
07.12.2011 - 08.12.2011
The sun was shining when we arrived in Melaka. After a pretty hair-raising ride with a burping taxi‐driver we arrived at our hotel. As we were only spending half a day here we quickly went out into the townto explore with the rest of the group and our Tour leader; Nin. She talked us through a bit of the history of the town, which had been governed by the Portuguese, Dutch and the British in turn. The town therefore had slightly European feel with a variety of architecture, historical forts and churches.

It was also home to a vibrant and lively Chinatown, which was lined with restaurants and boutique shops, and we spent the rest of the afternoon and evening here. In the evening we had our last group meal all together, none of us could believe how quickly the two weeks had gone, although we all agreed that home felt very far away!

After a dinner of chicken and rice (AGAIN) we took a boat ride down the river. The buildings that lined the waterfront were covered in beautiful murals, and lit with colourful fairy lights.

Returned to the hotel ready for a good night’s sleep in preparation for our final stage of our Asian adventure: Singapore.
